Butterfly Garden of HOPE — Liverpool, NY

About this venue

If you are planning an intimate elopement or a small ceremony and don’t want to spend a fortune on a venue, the Butterfly Garden of HOPE in Liverpool is one of the most quietly beautiful spots along Onondaga Lake. Established in 1992 and sitting right on the lakefront, the garden features lush flowering beds, memorial brick pathways, a pergola, a gazebo, benches, and a wishing well, all nestled between the lake and the parkway. Reservations are required to rent the space, and because it’s a public garden managed by HOPE for Bereaved Inc., the rental fees are very accessible compared to traditional wedding venues. This is not a full-service venue, so you’ll bring your own officiant, florals, and everything else, but for couples who want something simple, meaningful, and beautiful, it absolutely delivers.

Why we love it

For an elopement or micro wedding, the lakeside setting here is genuinely special. The light off Onondaga Lake, the lush garden surroundings, and the little arbor to exchange vows under give you photos that feel intimate and intentional without a big production behind them. Sometimes less really is more, and this spot proves it.

It’s also one of the most accessible budget options in the entire CNY area for couples who want something outdoors and beautiful without the price tag that usually comes with it. We love recommending it to couples who have their priorities in the right place and want their budget going toward the photography and the celebration rather than the venue fee.
